Chinese automaker Zeekr has introduced a new electric vehicle (EV) battery that it claims charges faster than those of its competitors, including Tesla and BYD. According to Zeekr, the upgraded battery can charge from 10% to 80% capacity in just 10.5 minutes using its ultra-fast charging stations. This surpasses Tesla’s Model 3, which charges 175 miles of range in 15 minutes.

The battery will debut in Zeekr’s 2025 007 sedan, available next week. It also performs efficiently in cold weather, charging from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes at temperatures as low as -10°C.

Experts in the industry note that while Tesla’s charging technology was once considered leading, it has since been surpassed by competitors like Zeekr. Mark Rainford, a China-based car industry commentator, highlighted that Zeekr’s parent company, Geely, has the resources to innovate rapidly in this space.

Zeekr’s recent entry onto the New York Stock Exchange marked a significant move, though its shares are currently trading 27% below the initial offering price. The IPO came shortly before the Biden administration announced new tariffs on Chinese-made EVs and other goods, raising concerns about the impact on Chinese companies expanding overseas.
