IT-Guwahati Partners to Boost Entrepreneurship in India

The Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati (IIT-G) has taken significant steps to bolster entrepreneurship and innovation in Northeast India by signing two pivotal memoranda of understanding (MoUs).

In the first MoU, IIT-G partnered with Assam Startup, facilitated through the Assam Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (AIIDC), to collectively promote entrepreneurship and impactful programmes. This collaboration aims to provide budding entrepreneurs with access to technology, industry, innovation, and value-added activities and programmes.

Additionally, IIT-Guwahati inked another MoU with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), committing to promote innovation and entrepreneurship across the Northeast region. This partnership underscores the institute’s dedication to fostering a vibrant ecosystem where innovative ideas can flourish into successful businesses.

Dr. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT-Guwahati, expressed pride in serving as a catalyst for innovation and entrepreneurship in Northeast India. He highlighted the collaborative measures with FICCI and Assam Startup as instrumental in nurturing a conducive environment for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Mr. Chinmoy Prakash Phookan, Managing Director of AIIDC, emphasised the significance of the partnership in advancing the startup ecosystem in Assam. He outlined plans to equip regional colleges and universities with startup ecosystems, further enhancing support for entrepreneurship in the region.

Sumeet Gupta, Assistant Secretary-General of FICCI, mentioned the industry chamber’s commitment to empowering startups in Northeast India. He highlighted the collaboration with IIT-Guwahati as a pivotal step towards driving economic growth and positioning the region as a significant contributor to the nation’s economy on a global stage.

Through these strategic partnerships, IIT-Guwahati aims to create a robust startup ecosystem in Northeast India, leveraging academic expertise, industry support, and collaborative initiatives to fuel innovation and entrepreneurship in the region.
